After several months of searching from the Bahama Islands through Florida and along the Gulf Coast, we knew we wanted a trawler and had narrowed the list of preferred boats and the features we either wanted or thought were must-haves. Through word of mouth we found an ideal boat and she was right in our backyard. As a bonus, she is already a veteran Looper.
Quite Nice is a DeFever 44+5 designed by renowned yacht architect Arthur DeFever. She features a spacious aft deck and fly-bridge providing relaxing spaces from which to view the world going by while cruising or relaxing in the marina or at anchor. Inside, there is a salon which serves as the living and dining area, a well-equipped galley, a V-berth guest stateroom forward with a head and an owner’s stateroom aft with another head. She will definitely provide lots of creature comforts. We call it our floating condo.
Quite Nice has twin 135 HP Perkins engines and cruises at about 8 knots. She is equipped with bow and stern thrusters, a 12.5 kw generator, Garmin 4212 GPS/Plotters, Furuno 1942 Radars, a washer & dryer, 2 under-counter fridges, a separate freezer, and an icemaker. Musn’t forget the air conditioning!
The name, Quite Nice, comes from Peter’s favorite expression of delight. A bit of a tongue-in-cheek nod to his ‘very proper’ British upbringing, where one would never say “awesome” or “fantastic” but instead “quite nice”. After 50 years in the States he has changed a bit but it’s a good story.
For now her home is Seabrook Marina while we get her outfitted and get ourselves trained to handle and maintain.
We will definitely share more photos as we have the opportunity to express ourselves in the decor and desired upgrades.
